Job description

The newly formed data strategy group at Learfield has partnered with the business in creating data solutions that will help drive the business forward into a digital transformation age.

As the Manager, Data Engineering, you will oversee the development and implementation of engineering tasks. The data strategy team is looking for a candidate with in-depth experience of developing and implementing Azure data services including storage/data lake, Data Factory and SQL databases. The role will lead the engineering team in day-to-day operations, project execution and development.

The ideal candidate will have a wealth of knowledge in design concepts, development and test with hands on azure big data implementation experience. Any experience of other technology areas such Event Hubs, Stream Analytics, AI modeling and Tableau would be advantageous as well as any experience in any other cloud technology providers such as AWS and Google Cloud.

As Manager, Data Engineering, you will report to the Director, Engineering. Additionally, you will work closely with the senior members of the DSA team and across the organization.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

  • At least 6+ years of experience in data engineering or 2+ years in a leadership role
  • Oversee the implementation of all engineering tasks throughout agile sprint development
  • Work with Director, Engineering on project development, strategic planning, innovation scopes and ensuring a safe/productive work environment
  • Create POC’s and start projects to help remain on an agreed timeline; hold engineering team accountable to project timelines and scopes
  • Create/maintain technical documentation by project/solution
  • Knowledge of security best practices and industry standards and how to apply them within an Azure environment.
  • Hands on experience in building Azure infrastructure using arm templates
  • In-depth experience of cloud release management, process automation, source control ideally utilizing Azure DevOps. CI/CD automation tools/procedures also a plus
  • Extensive experience in developing the following technologies:
    • Azure Storage Accounts/Data Lake Gen2
    • Azure Data Factory, Mapping Data Flows
    • Azure SQL Server/Azure Synapse Analytics
    • Azure Logic & Function apps
  • Provide leadership in growing big data/data warehousing environment
  • Comfortable to derive solutions when requirements are missing or obscure

Nice to Haves

  • Hands on development experience of the following technologies:
    • Azure Event Hubs or Kafka or Lambda Architecture
    • Azure API management
    • Azure Machine Learning
    • ML Studio
  • Tableau Server and Desktop knowledge; Power BI development and maintenance
  • Experience or knowledge of other Data technologies – such as Amazon Redshift, Google Big Query, Hadoop or other cloud-based data service.
  • Experience in frontend technologies such as HTML, CSS, Javascript, Angular, React
  • Experience in development languages using any of the following – C#, Python
