Sr. Network Engineer

Summary: The Senior Network Engineer at UDT is an expert at working in a Cisco & Fortinet powered carrier grade network. This role is responsible for provisioning new services for customers and maintaining the service provider network. This role provides technical leadership and support for internal teams and for UDT’s customers. This role is tasked with managing the service provider network, including aspects such as ensuring availability and uptime, measuring performance, and facilitating growth and expansion.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, build, implement, and support new network architectures in a predominantly Cisco & Fortinet environment. Serves as a technical lead on new contracts. Responsible for design standardization that is maintained throughout the team.
  • Administer and maintain existing service provider network. Troubleshoot complex customer issues and coordinate third party vendor interaction to ensure prompt and professional resolution. Serve as an escalation point within the team.
  • Works with the Engineering team to address capacity issues throughout the network. Assist Engineering leadership on capacity planning and growth for the service provider network.
  • Write and deploy automation and scripting to make the service provider group more efficient at service provisioning and service support.
  • Create technical documentation for customers and for other departments to share knowledge. Serves as technical consultant to our sales teams. Leads the team through knowledge transfer, cross-training, and documentation in a group setting.
  • Assist in researching, evaluating, and recommending new technologies to management for consideration.
  • After-hours on-call support rotation.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Telecommunications, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience is required. Applicable experience may be considered as a substitute such as 10+ years of technical experience working in a carrier grade MSP network.
  • CCNP (Cisco Certified Network Professional) is required. Fortinet NSE-4 FortiOS & FortiGate Administrator are required. RHCE is a plus.
  • A strong candidate must have 10+ years’ experience working with various routing protocols and technologies such as OSPF, EIGRP, BGP, MPLS, QOS, Multicasting and working in switched environments with strong understanding of layer 2 networks and topologies as it relates to design in Metro Ethernet deployments.
  • A strong candidate will also have 4+ years’ experience working with automation tools like ansible or using code to run scripts (Python).
