Job Purpose:

The European Sales and Business Development Manager is responsible for the management and leadership of the European Utility Sales and Business Development activity. This role involves identifying targets and markets, winning orders, reaching and exceeding the sales budget for the customer base, and proactively driving the business forward. The manager will develop and implement a sector business strategy to deliver high levels of profitable sales and position Lucy Electric as the preferred switchgear and automation supplier in Europe.

Business Overview:

Lucy Electric is an international leader in intelligent secondary power distribution products and solutions, with features such as remote operation and monitoring. Linking energy generation to consumption, the business specialises in high-performance medium and low-voltage switchgear for utility, industrial and commercial applications.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Identify and manage European Channel Partners and retained consultants.
  • Create and follow dedicated and focused plans for existing and emerging/new customers and sectors in line with the Company’s 5-year strategic plan.
  • Provide input to and work towards annual Sales Budgets.
  • Manage channel partner and consultant relationships, including performance target setting, monitoring, and reporting.
  • Research, investigate, and identify potential new areas for business development and growth in relation to new and existing products and services.
  • Prepare tenders with the assistance of product specialists and tendering resources.
  • Prepare monthly sales forecasts and reports.
  • Gain appropriate client approvals or specifications for projects.
  • Work in conjunction with the Global Sales and Business Development Director, Marketing Director, and Senior Sales Team members to produce ad-hoc reports and summaries as necessary.
  • Assimilate views and information on specific markets and customer requirements, keeping abreast of product developments.
  • Assist with the preparation of budget pricing information, proposals/quotations/tenders.
  • Arrange and coordinate regular sales meetings for the team.
  • Participate in regular performance discussions throughout the year.
  • Implement special projects as requested by management.

Account Management & Winning Business:

  • Formulate and follow a dedicated and focused business strategy for LEUK’s international markets, ensuring alignment with the Lucy Electric 5-year strategic plan.
  • Develop and maintain account plans for all DNO (Utility) and Industrial customers, communicating the plans to the wider business to maintain customer focus and ensure unity of direction.
  • Develop, maintain, and communicate a DNO (Utility) / EV / Industrial sector strategy, feeding into the wider Sales strategy.
  • Prepare action plans for effective search of sales leads and prospects, following up with the Regional Sales Managers (RSM) to win and secure business.
  • Conduct reviews with internal teams to build effective communications, understand training and development needs, and provide insights for improving company sales and activity performance.

Market Intelligence:

  • Assimilate views and information on the DNO (Utility) / Industrial and EV market, customer trends, and requirements, reporting data back to the business at both local and board levels.
  • Keep abreast of product developments and competitor activities.
  • Engage with industry associations and regulatory bodies.
  • Support the marketing function by developing and implementing DNO (Utility) / EV and Industrial sector-specific marketing communications strategies.
  • Create and maintain competitor profiles and understand their impact on customer relationships.
  • Team Management:
  • Provide mentoring and training to team members.
  • Ensure regular forecasting and budgeting to keep the team on track to meet objectives.

Qualifications, Knowledge, And Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related field; Master’s Degree is a plus.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in the electrical T&D sector in sales and marketing.
  • Strong people management skills, including recruitment, mentoring, and coaching.
  • Extensive and proven engineering sales experience.
  • Knowledge of contract law and terms and conditions.
  • Ability to negotiate contracts and close orders leading to profitable business.
  • Detailed knowledge of low voltage and medium voltage switchgear products and automation systems.
  • Previous experience selling to European Utilities and managing partner arrangements.
  • Proficiency in English and other European languages (Italian, German, French) is desirable.
  • Computer literacy with excellent command of MS Office.
  • Strong negotiation, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Excellent presentation skills.

Other Requirements:

  • Current EU driving license.
  • Electrical or mechanical engineering degree/HND.
