Data Scientist Principal - Remote in California
Job Description
The Principal Data Scientist is an independent statistical modeler designing and developing processes for clinical program member intervention identification and program impact measurement using eligibility, medical, and pharmacy administrative claims and external data, (e.g., care management, disease management, laboratory, wellness program data, etc.). This position takes scientific responsibility for project statistical modeling and/or predictive modeling completion and movement of models into product production capacity; is responsible for strategic consultation, and for use of best methods to address research needs. This position may have direct supervisory responsibility for entry-level and mid-level analysts/data scientists.
Responsibilities
- Conceptualizes advanced scientific model design, including advanced predictive modeling, with health claims data, applying statistical theories and methods to solve complex technical problems
- Finalize model project deliverables and ensure research findings are valid, reliable, and reproducible
- Use and direct others in the use of multivariate modeling statistical software (SAS, SPSS, etc.) to create and maintain listings, tabulations, graphical summaries, and formal statistical estimates and tests
- Perform and direct others in the performance of advanced predictive modeling for clinical program development/enhancement
- Develop automated production analysis tools where appropriate and create production predictive modeling process for clinical programs
- Mentor and coach less experienced Data Scientists and analysts; may have direct supervision over exempt level employees
- Drive data and analytics roadmap and definition of KPIs to meet company goals in partnership with the client
- Be a champion for data-driven decision making throughout the organization
- Engage stakeholders to drive consensus and adoption of analytics-driven strategies.
- Perform complex analytics that cuts across multiple areas
- Independently execute complex, cross-functional analytics projects to support leadership decisions.

Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in statistics, mathematics, epidemiology, or related area of study, or equivalent combination of education and/or relevant work experience; HS diploma or GED is required
- 8 years of related work experience with large data sets, SAS and SQL and building predictive models
- Must be eligible to work in the United States without need for work visa or residency sponsorship

- Highly analytical and research oriented
- Demonstrated expertise with SAS and SQL
- Proven expertise building complex predictive models
Preferred Qualifications
- Healthcare experience
- Advanced SAS experience in UNIX environment
- Research Master's degree (e.g., M.S., M.P.H.) or equivalent work experience

Potential pay for this position ranges from $108,000.00 - $184,000.00 based on experience and skills.
