Social Media Contractor, Transfarmation

Terms of Engagement for Independent Contractor 

Duration: Hours worked and length of contract to be determined

Hourly Rate: $22–$32 depending on experience

Location: Remote in the United States

We currently seek a social media contractor to join our Transfarmation™ project. In this role, you will collaborate closely with the social media manager and Transfarmation™ team to create content for our social media channels: Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, and Facebook. This includes researching key demographics, news, and social media trends; gaining followers and increasing engagement on Transfarmation channels; drafting mission-aligned blog posts and other content; and gathering and analyzing social media and blog metrics.

You will do invaluable work:

• Create and manage content for Transfarmation’s social channels, specifically Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, and Facebook
• Collaborate with the digital marketing team
• Manage and engage Transfarmation’s social media community through social listening and replying to comments
• Research value-aligned organizations and engage with their content or share it on Transfarmation’s social channels
• Write timely and compelling content for Transfarmation’s blog
• Track analytics across Transfarmation’s social platforms and blog
• Keep abreast of the latest social media trends, including hashtags, memes, and viral campaigns
• Stay apprised of local, national, and international news stories relating to Transfarmation’s mission
• Perform any other duties assigned by team leader

Your qualifications will take our Transfarmation project to the next level:

• Minimum three years’ experience in social media advocacy, farmer advocacy, or a closely related field
• Experience in email or digital marketing (a plus)
• Excellent spoken and written communication skills
• Passion for regenerative agriculture, agroecology, or sustainable farming
• Interest in creating a just, equitable, and sustainable food system through collaboration and movement building, especially with farmers raising animals in industrial facilities
• Thorough knowledge of or willingness to learn existing and emerging social media channels
• Thorough knowledge of or willingness to learn social media measurement software, tools, and procedures
• Knowledge of social media design layouts and willingness to learn new design skills and software
• Ability to communicate ideas and concepts to the creative team and give constructive and mission-driven feedback
• Support for Transfarmation’s philosophy and ability to professionally advocate Transfarmation’s positions
• Willingness and ability to travel to Transfarmation farms or conferences if needed
• Commitment to the mission and values of Mercy For Animals
• Commitment to continued personal and organizational growth in diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice principles

About Your Team Leader

Your team leader, Heather Decker, is the social media manager for The Transfarmation Project. She joined Mercy For Animals in 2023, bringing over five years of communications experience, including social media management, email marketing, and campaign planning. With a background in animal advocacy, Heather is passionate about working with farmers and other like-minded individuals who are just as hungry for change. 

Heather leads authentically and compassionately, fostering autonomy and creativity in producing content. Though she is passionate about her work, she believes that a healthy work-life balance is the key to a happy life. When Heather isn’t working, you can find her spending time with her family, playing a board game, or cooking plant-based food while listening to an audiobook.
