We’re looking for a Head of Engineering who thrives as a player-coach—someone who can lead at a high level while staying hands-on when needed.
This role isn’t just about managing engineers—it’s about leading, strategizing, and executing. You’ll help scale the engineering team, optimize processes, and drive technical innovation, all while ensuring alignment with the company’s business goals. You’ll work closely with the CEO, product, and leadership team to shape the future of our platform, but also dive into code, debug critical issues, and guide engineers through complex challenges when necessary.
As our Engineering Leader, you will:
• Align engineering strategy with company goals to fuel Jobscan’s growth.
• Collaborate cross-functionally to drive business outcomes—not just code.
• Lead by example as a hands-on technical expert and mentor.
• Scale a high-performing, remote engineering team and culture.
• Ensure reliable, high-quality product delivery while managing tech debt.
These attributes and experiences will make you stand out:
• Have led engineering teams through rapid growth at a startup (2 → 15+ engineers).
• Balance strategic leadership with hands-on technical depth.
• Bring 10+ years building customer-facing web apps and deep cloud (AWS) expertise.
• Thrive in fast-paced environments and communicate clearly across functions.
• Are excited by AI, and familiar with modern stacks like PHP/Laravel, Vue, or Python.

Interview Process
Here is what you can expect for our interview process:
1. Call with our recruiting team (30 minutes)
2. Interview with Head of People (1 hour)
3. Interview with CEO (1 hour)
4. Interview with Senior Engineers (1 hour)
5. Final interview with CEO (1 hour)
The base salary range for this role is $200,000 – $250,000 CAD, depending on experience, skills, and qualifications. Final compensation may also include equity, performance incentives, and benefits. The range is intended to be a starting point. Total compensation will be determined based on a variety of factors, including your experience, expertise, and alignment with the role.
