Job description

 

As a member of the Grants Team in the School of Medicine Office of Research Administration (ORA), we are seeking a Sr. Grants Associate who is an institutional signatory for grant and incoming subgrant applications, awards and other grant actions. Reporting to the Associate Director of Grants, the ideal candidate will be a self-motivated, highly organized, team-oriented person with strong analytical skills, good judgment, excellent attention to detail and who excels in a deadline-driven work environment. This central office research administration position is remote and has no financial responsibilities.


Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Manage a complex, assigned portfolio that oversees the grant process from final proposal review and submission through closeout:
    • Review, approve and submit grant and subgrant applications and progress reports for federal, academic and non-profit sponsors and prime sponsors.
    • Review, negotiate and accept incoming grant and subgrant awards and agreements on behalf of the University; Work with compliance offices, Johns Hopkins Technology Ventures, the Office of General Counsel and sponsors to resolve any conflicts regarding award terms and conditions.
    • Approve and submit federal Just-In-Time requests, sponsor prior approval requests and administrative updates (relinquishments, carryover, no-cost extensions, etc.).
    • Submits account setup requests for new awards and award updates.
  • Remain informed and up to date with events, regulations and policy changes that affect sponsored projects.
  • Advises SOM research community on sponsored projects issues, such as proposal preparation and post-award compliance.
  • Works collaboratively and maintains positive and productive relationships with institutional and sponsor contacts.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree required or JD preferred.
  • A minimum of five years' experience in research administration with some specialized experience in grants administration.
  • Demonstrate understanding of research administration best practices.
  • Must be able to manage competing priorities with multiple--sometimes tight--deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Adobe Acrobat and various institutional, federal and non-federal electronic proposal submission and award management systems: eRACommons, Grants.gov, ASSIST, proposalCENTRAL, fastlane/Research.gov, etc.
  • Familiarity with proposal submission requirements, federal agency policies, regulations, and their application to sponsored research.
  • Excellent oral, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience developing and conducting trainings on research administration topics.
  • Understanding of Uniform Guidance (2 CFR 200), including cost principles.
  • Knowledge of legal terms and conditions that typically appear in sponsored project agreements and principles of negotiation.
