Description
GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES: United Digestive’s Credit Balance Specialist is responsible for all duties associated with resolving accounts with credit balances by reviewing all claims, payments, and adjustments to resolve through adjustments, conveyances, or refunds in a timely manner.
REPORTS TO: Revenue Cycle Manager
RESPONSIBILITIES
Duties include but are not limited to:
Review all claims, payments and adjustments for credit balance accounts
Resolve all credit balance accounts through adjustments, conveyances or refunds accurately and in a timely manner
Process refunds requested by the patient or the practice location accurately and timely
Strive to resolve account balances to zero prior to accounts being forwarded to an outside agency for collections
Maintain accurate, clear, concise and complete account notes and other relevant information
Respond to requests for information and resolve accounting discrepancies
Research and respond to all patient inquiries
Update patient demographic information as needed
Resolves unidentified payments through research
Identify trends and escalate where appropriate
Additional duties and responsibilities as assigned
REQUIRED EDUCATION, SKILLS, & EXPERIENCE
High School Diploma or GED required; 2 years of relevant revenue cycle management experience in a healthcare organization is required. Must be computer literate, able to operate an Electronic Medical Record System (preferably eCW), and multiple Microsoft Office applications.
ADDITIONAL SKILL AND EXPERIENCE
Credit Balance Specialist must be able to:
Display a professional outgoing warm and helpful attitude
Provide a high level of service to all stakeholders including coworkers, patients, physicians, and vendors
Communicate clearly with coworkers, patients, physicians and vendors through telephone, email, and in-person
Plan, prioritize, and complete multiple tasks as delegated by RCM Leadership
Must be flexible, organized, and work well under pressure
Answer emails, voicemails, communicate issues in a timely and efficient manner
Execute a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
PHYSICAL/MENTAL/ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS
Requires sitting and standing associated with a normal office environment, travel as business needs dictate.
