Job description

 

As a member of the Grants Team in the School of Medicine Office of Research Administration (ORA), the Assistant Director is an institutional signatory for grant and incoming subgrant applications, awards and other grant actions. Reporting to the Associate Director of Grants, the ideal candidate will be a self-motivated, adaptable, highly organized, team-oriented person with strong analytical skills, the ability to exercise mature judgment, excellent attention to detail and who is comfortable multi-tasking in a deadline-driven work environment.


*This central office research administration position is remote and has no financial responsibilities.


Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Maintains an assigned sponsored portfolio of increased complexity.
  • Review, negotiate and accept/submit a variety of sponsored proposals and/or agreements on behalf of the University, working with compliance, technology transfer, general counsel and sponsors to resolve any conflicts regarding award terms and conditions.
  • Approve and submit post-submission and post-awards actions federal Just-In-Time requests, sponsor prior approval requests and administrative updates (relinquishments, carryover, no-cost extensions, etc.).
  • Submits account setup requests for new awards and award updates.
  • May involve supervisory and team operations duties (leading meetings, conducting trainings, etc. serving on panels, etc.).
  • Remain informed and up to date with events, regulations and policy changes that affect sponsored projects and advises SOM research community on these issues, policies, etc.
  • Works collaboratively and maintains positive and productive relationships with institutional and sponsor contacts.
  • Advise and assist staff and principal investigators with the interpretation and understanding of agreement terms and conditions as they pertain to sponsored projects.
  • Increased role in the development and presentation of trainings to the SOM research community.
  • Acts as backup to the Associate Director, Grants for compliance and other institutional issues.
  • Represents SOM at institutional, national and regional research administration meetings.



Minimum Qualifications
  • Advanced Degree required.
  • Minimum of five years’ related experience preferably in research administration with some specialized experience in grant administration.
  • Knowledge of legal terms and conditions that typically appear in sponsored project agreements and principles of negotiation.
  • Skilled problem solver willing to consider alternative methods and viewpoints.
  • Excellent and effective communication.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond HS Diploma/Graduation Equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Supervisory experience preferred.
  • Coaching/mentoring experience preferred
