Job description

Role Summary

The Director, Alliance Development, National Stakeholders is responsible for initiating and managing a range of alliance development projects to favorably influence the public policy environment in support of Pfizer’s objectives. The Director will work with the broader Corporate Affairs team to lead strategy and execute plans to impact third party stakeholders about issues related to Pfizer and the pharmaceutical industry at the national and regional level. The Director reports into the Vice President, U.S. Public Affairs and Advocacy.

The Director serves as the National Alliance Development lead for the development and execution of strategies to establish and maintain third party support for Pfizer’s policy and advocacy priorities. The Director will coordinate with External Activation, Policy and Government Relations colleagues to ensure priorities of the Alliance Development team are aligned at the Federal and State level. The Director will also coordinate with the commercial organization, PGS and R&D to ensure Pfizer enterprise, therapeutic, R&D and manufacturing advocacy priorities are advanced through the Alliance Development team.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Serve as lead for National Alliance Development, which includes leading a strategic plan for engaging with third party advocates and other partners based in Washington, DC to drive Pfizer’s policy and advocacy objectives at the federal level; coordinate with VP, Federal Policy and Government Relations to ensure plan is effective

  • Represent Pfizer before key external stakeholders as policy and advocacy expert; establish and maintain excellent working relationships with third party stakeholders

  • DrivePfizer’s leadership profile in key industry trade associations and coalitions, and shape development of industry positions and advocacy strategies to support Pfizer’s business objectives

  • Serve as Pfizer’s lead representative on PhRMA’s Alliance Workgroup

  • In collaboration with USPGR Vice Presidents for Public Affairs, Policy and Government Relations, develop and implement engagement plans of Pfizer ELT and other senior leaders with third party advocates, including policy roundtables and discussions in Washington, DC or in the states

  • Collaborate with State Government Relations Senior Director, Internal Partnerships and Senior Director, Political Outreach on engagement plans with site leadership and colleagues at Pfizer PGS and R&D sites in the U.S.

  • Develop and operationalize advocacy strategies and tactics to engage key stakeholders to support Pfizer's commercial and legislative objectives.

  • Manage national Alliance Development budget.

  • Collaborate with Public Affairs leads in all Business Units to provide stakeholder engagement, advocacy and support for advocacy efforts related to all public affairs campaigns supporting Pfizer priorities.

  • Identify and manage a portfolio of national, regional, and state relationships with key stakeholders, including but not limited to, patient, provider, multicultural, business, community, and civic organizations for the purpose of defining the policy-affecting positions of those organizations, and to determine the potential for advocacy by those organizations in support of Pfizer preferred policies.

  • Develop innovative approaches and relations with national and state ally groups and ensure all programs and grants are aligned with commercial and legislative priorities.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required;

  • 8+ years’ experience in alliance development, patient advocacy or government. relations, ideally including involvement with earned media, grassroots and political campaigns or activities.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with proven ability to work as part of cross-functional teams.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills required.

  • Candidate demonstrates a breadth of diverse leadership experiences and capabilities including: the ability to influence and collaborate with peers, develop and coach others, oversee and guide the work of other colleagues to achieve meaningful outcomes and create business impact.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • advanced degree preferred.

  • Creative and innovative approach to issues management desired.

Non-Standard Work Schedule, Travel or Environment Requirements

  • Traveling 25% of the time may be a requirement for an Alliance Development Director

Organizational Relationships

  • Will partner with the key Pfizer business leaders and colleagues, to identify potential advocates in support of Pfizer BU’s preferred policies.

  • Will partner with USPGR colleagues to support legislative efforts in the states.

  • Ability to work within a matrix organization across business units.

  • Brief, develop, and engage with advocacy organizations applicable to Pfizer’s public affairs priorities.

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $156,600.00 to $261,000.00. In addition, this position is eligible for participation in Pfizer’s Global Performance Plan with a bonus target of 20.0% of the base salary and eligibility to participate in our share based long term incentive program.
