Job description

Job Summary

The Database Administrator at Quility will lead the planning, design, development, and implementation of cloud-based data platform capabilities in alignment with industry best practices. As a key member of our team, you will drive the advancement of our data platform infrastructure, ensuring its reliability, security, and compliance with industry standards.

A typical day involves collaborating with fellow engineers to deploy new databases through our automated systems and providing operational support for newly deployed software. You'll leverage your problem-solving skills to automate fixes for operational issues and integrate applications with other internal teams. Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the development and execution of initiatives aimed at enhancing overall efficiency and meeting the increasing demands of our platform.
  • Utilize strong data mining and modeling skills to facilitate idea generation and guide projects from concept to execution.
  • Manage and maintain databases, including proficiency in SQL, stored procedures, functions, and views.
  • Retrieve and analyze data using Excel, SQL, and other data management systems.
  • Implement robust backup strategies and conduct regular testing to ensure compliance with business recovery objectives.
  • Proactively diagnose and resolve SQL Server service outages, minimizing disruptions during non-business hours.
  • Configure SQL Server monitoring utilities to optimize system operation and minimize false alarms.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to identify process and system improvement opportunities through data analysis.
  • Design and implement reporting solutions to empower stakeholders in making effective business decisions.
  • Drive operational enhancement projects and uphold data standardization governance principles.
  • Identify and resolve high-priority database performance issues, ensuring that all queries are optimized for efficiency.
  • Administer database access controls, perform regular access reviews, and grant permissions tailored to specific tasks.
  • Oversee database backup procedures, ensure proper redundancy measures are in place, and manage recovery processes to safeguard data integrity.
  • Select cost-effective Azure SKUs to optimize budget and performance needs.
  • Tune and enhance the performance of over 40 Azure and ERC databases, focusing on scalability and operational efficiency.
  • Strengthen database security through expert insights, conducting index reviews, and optimizing performance; familiarity with MS SQL (including Azure), PostgreSQL, and Snowflake is advantageous.
  • Possess server-level management expertise, especially relevant to Azure Database environments, to maintain and improve infrastructure.
  • Lead database migration projects to cloud platforms, with a special emphasis on Azure environments, ensuring smooth transitions and minimal downtime.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience as a DBA, Database Engineer, or similar role.
  • At least 4 years of experience with NoSQL databases and/or other relational databases like RDS, PostgreSQL.
  • Hands-on experience with database monitoring and alerting tools.
  • In-depth knowledge of database security principles and best practices.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in a remote team environment.
  • Experience with dynamic SQL and object-oriented coding practices.
  • Familiarity with data sets related to insurance carrier data.
  • Certification in relevant technologies (optional but beneficial).

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
