Job description

We believe the future of our nation’s roadways is automated, safer, more accessible and enables more efficient movement of people and goods. While billions have been invested into developing vehicle technologies – including advanced driver assistance systems (“ADAS”) and autonomous driving solutions – a small fraction has been spent on developing infrastructure to support and enhance roadways. At Cavnue, we are developing and integrating technologies that will power the world’s most technologically advanced roadways (“cavnues”). Our approach is founded in creating a digital model of the roadway that analyzes and optimizes road conditions in real-time, sharing actionable alerts and providing proactive guidance to vehicles and drivers.

Join us in innovating the roads of the future. Cavnue is bridging vehicle technology and road infrastructure to rapidly deliver safer roads today while accelerating the adoption of connected and automated vehicles (CAVs) moving forward. With ongoing deployments in Michigan and Texas, Cavnue is the only company in North America that uses Smart Road technology to improve performance for road operators and deliver a safer, more efficient experience for all road users while preparing for a future with more CAVs. Our mission is to set the new standard for road performance and safety.

Role Overview

Cavnue is seeking a hands-on, technically adept Senior Infrastructure Integration Engineer to drive field-level execution of our intelligent highway deployments. This individual will serve as the connective tissue between our engineering teams, state Departments of Transportation (DOTs), civil engineering partners, and system integrators—translating our design vision into physical infrastructure with excellence.

You’ll work directly on deployments involving advanced sensing hardware, communications enclosures, and environmental sensors mounted on highway poles, coordinating across trenching, power delivery, and mechanical mounting efforts. You’ll also assist in setting up lab and mock environments to simulate real-world field conditions, and help vet design plans for constructability, safety, and compliance.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Strategic Technical Liaison: Serve as the primary technical point of contact for Cavnue with DOTs, utilities, engineering firms, and system integrators throughout all phases of roadside deployments. Manage relationships, facilitate communication, and ensure alignment on technical requirements and project timelines.
  • Comprehensive Power Infrastructure Management: Oversee and direct the complete execution of site-level power provisioning, including coordinating utility service drops, ensuring accurate installation of electrical panels, grounding systems, and metering equipment. Conduct quality checks and ensure adherence to safety regulations and codes.
  • Expert Civil and Fiber Infrastructure Guidance: Provide in-depth technical guidance on civil works, encompassing trenching plans, underground conduit routing, and the installation of fiber optic infrastructure. Collaborate with civil engineering partners, review designs, and ensure compliance with DOT specifications and local regulations.
  • Lab Environment Development and Validation: Lead the design, assembly, and maintenance of lab-based mockups and simulation environments. Utilize these environments to rigorously test and validate hardware mounting strategies, installation processes, and system integration before field deployment.
  • Detailed Plan Review and Compliance: Conduct thorough reviews and redlining of civil and electrical engineering plans. Verify hardware integration feasibility, accuracy of design details, and adherence to relevant codes, standards, and regulations. Identify potential issues and propose solutions proactively.
  • Precise Mechanical Installation Coordination: Orchestrate and supervise the mechanical installation of roadside infrastructure, including poles, cabinets, cameras, and sensor packages. Ensure precise alignment, secure mounting, and functionality according to engineering specifications and project plans.
  • Iterative Improvement through Field Data Analysis: Systematically collect, analyze, and interpret field data and deployment feedback. Use these learnings to drive continuous improvement in design, installation procedures, and overall deployment efficiency. Actively contribute to internal design cycles and recommend optimizations.
  • On-Site Deployment Support and Travel: Travel to deployment sites as required (estimated 15–30%) to provide hands-on technical support, oversee installation activities, troubleshoot issues, and ensure successful project execution. Represent Cavnue on-site and collaborate effectively with field teams and stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Experience: 5+ years of hands-on experience in infrastructure deployment, construction projects, or field engineering, with a proven track record of successful project execution involving power, mechanical, and/or fiber systems, preferably in public infrastructure or DOT-related projects.
  • Power Systems Expertise: Deep understanding of electrical distribution systems, including utility service drops, site-level panel work, grounding, and metering. Ability to troubleshoot power issues and ensure compliance with electrical codes and standards.
  • Civil and Fiber Infrastructure Knowledge: Extensive familiarity with trenching, underground conduit installation, and fiber optic infrastructure deployment. Experience working within or around DOT rights-of-way and adhering to relevant regulations.
  • Plan Interpretation and Review: Strong ability to read, interpret, and review detailed civil and electrical engineering drawings. Experience redlining plans and identifying potential issues related to hardware integration, constructability, and compliance.
  • Lab and Simulation Environment Development: Hands-on experience designing, assembling, and maintaining lab-based mockups or simulation environments to validate mounting strategies, installation processes, and system integration.
  • Mechanical Installation Oversight: Proven ability to coordinate and supervise the mechanical installation of infrastructure components, including poles, cabinets, cameras, and sensor packages. Ensuring precision and adherence to engineering specifications.
  • Field Troubleshooting and Problem Solving: Demonstrated aptitude for troubleshooting and resolving complex infrastructure issues in the field, often under pressure. Ability to adapt to changing conditions and find solutions on-site.
  • Technical Communication and Collaboration: Excellent communication and collaboration skills, especially with public sector stakeholders (DOTs), utilities, engineering firms, and vendors. Ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly and concisely.
  • Safety Awareness: Strong commitment to safety protocols and procedures.
  • Adaptability and Travel: Willingness to travel to deployment sites as required (15-30%) and adapt to various field conditions and project schedules. Proactive in seeking solutions and providing on-site support.
  • Technical Documentation: Ability to create and maintain accurate technical documentation, including installation procedures, site reports, and as-built drawings.

Salary Range: The compensation range for this position is specific to the location(s) listed below and is the range Cavnue reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for the position taking into account the wide variety of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including job-related knowledge; skillset; experience, education and training; certifications; and other relevant business and organizational factors.
