Position Overview and Objective
As the Director, Development, you apply your expertise to provide product definitions and priorities to engineering staff including detailed acceptance criteria to be met. You have a demonstrated history of leading a high performing team of engineering professionals up to 10 or more in size and augment with contractors to keep up with increasing demands. You work closely with the engineering team to discuss in detail the criteria to be met to ensure engineers fully understand deliverables. You are passionate about innovation and improving business scalability through collaboration, communication, and ensuring the product resilience and security posture.
Primary Responsibilities and Duties
Direct and lead the software engineering team in addition to a team of contractors.
Work closely with management team leaders from sales, marketing, strategy, alliances, finance, and operations to deeply understand software needs of customers and internal staff.
Provide product definitions and priorities to engineering staff including detailed acceptance criteria to be met and delivered upon.
Collaborate with engineering team to discuss in detail the criteria to be met to ensure engineers fully understand deliverables.
Participate in technical design and architecture meetings.
Ensure the vast majority of engineering team resources is spent working on strategic projects.
Meet with engineering team daily to ensure swift progress and eliminate roadblocks.
Communicate status of engineering work to stakeholders including providing frequent demonstration videos.
Own responsibility for pushing products all the way to release.
Ensure production issues are fixed promptly for released products.

Understanding of full-life cycle product and portfolio management with a special focus on product definition, development, and delivery.
Contributes to and often champions the development of departmental goals and objectives and often contributes to organizational goals. Informally coaches lower-level people leaders within the function and may have a formal mentorship responsibility.
Proficient in managing people, defining functional and individual goals and objectives, coaching and mentoring, and performance feedback.
Key Competencies
Minimum Qualifications
Prior professional experience with leading and organizing engineering teams, while sustaining high strategic output
Former people management experience directly leading teams of up to 10 or more software engineering professionals
Experience in leading and managing contractors on and offshore to augment full time team members and meet tight production deadlines
Demonstrate ownership and accountability over individual and teamwork product Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple product work streams
Adept at communicating to technical and non-technical audiences and presents regular updates to leadership and the board
In depth business acumen and an understanding of the impacts of product development to enterprise business systems
Exhibits expertise with technical design concepts and architecture
Former professional experience as a Software Engineer, Developer or Product Manager
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, General IT, other related degree or demonstrated career growth within software engineering while leading teams
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in working within a cybersecurity consultancy, professional services firm or start-up organization experiencing hyper-growth
Knowledge of the Incident Response lifecycle and how data breach investigations are conducted
