About the Role
Roar Apex is looking for a highly skilled Senior Financial Controller with deep expertise in real estate accounting and finance to join our team. This role is pivotal in managing financial reporting, REIT compliance, and strategic financial oversight across a portfolio of real estate assets. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in REIT structures, financial modeling, and regulatory reporting, and will serve as a key advisor to senior leadership.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the preparation and review of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP and REIT requirements.
- Manage the consolidation of financial data across multiple properties and entities within the REIT.
- Develop and maintain financial models for forecasting, budgeting, and performance analysis, including NOI, FFO, AFFO, and other key REIT metrics.
- Analyze financial performance versus budgets and forecasts, providing variance analysis and actionable recommendations.
- Prepare and present financial reports to senior management, investors, and regulatory bodies.
- Lead the annual audit process and ensure full audit compliance.
- Calculate Net Asset Value (NAV) and NAV per share, and evaluate its relationship to the REIT’s share price.
- Ensure compliance with REIT regulations, including tax, distribution, and SEC reporting requirements.
- Manage the preparation and submission of all REIT-related tax filings and reports.
- Monitor compliance with debt covenants and other financial obligations.
- Stay current on evolving REIT accounting standards and reporting practices.
- Establish and enforce strong internal controls to ensure financial accuracy and asset protection.
- Create and implement accounting policies and operational procedures.
- Manage cash flow planning and treasury operations.
- Oversee accounts payable, receivable, and general ledger activity.
- Provide financial analysis and strategic support for acquisitions, dispositions, and other initiatives.
- Support the development of financial strategies aimed at maximizing shareholder value.
- Assist with budgeting for the REIT and related management organizations.
- Provide insights and oversight related to grants, equity, and debt instruments.
- Act as a key financial advisor to senior leadership.
- Supervise, mentor, and develop accounting and finance staff.
- Promote a collaborative, high-performance team environment.
- Maintain strong relationships with auditors, financial institutions, and other external partners.
Requirements
- Proven experience in a senior financial role within a REIT or similar environment.
- Expertise with Yardi accounting system.
- Strong understanding of GAAP and REIT accounting principles.
- Experience with financial modeling, budgeting, and forecasting.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Proficiency in accounting software and financial reporting tools.
- Experience with SEC reporting.
- Experience with property-level accounting.
- Familiarity with REIT tax regulations and compliance.
- Experience managing debt, equity, and grants.
