In the role of Senior Underwriting Assistant, you serve as the primary representative of the Commercial Surety team to both our agents and direct customers. Your responsibilities include offering comprehensive support to the underwriters, the underwriting team, and our customers while ensuring adherence to the company’s established practices, policies, and procedures.
Key Accountabilities/Deliverables:
Your daily responsibilities will primarily involve collaborating with your underwriting team to support their premium production objectives, aiding our agents and direct customers, and coordinating with your support team to uphold work turnaround standards.
Assist underwriters in evaluating and processing bond applications from start to finish.
Collaborate with the team to fulfill the requirements of the underwriters.
Review applications for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with underwriting guidelines.
Process Surety business through data entry into our front-end system within specified timeframes.
Prepare bond submissions and deliver bond documents to customers.
Assist in special projects and initiatives to improve underwriting processes and efficiency.
Offer assistance and support to our agent base by demonstrating strong communication and customer service skills.
Develop and maintain superior relationships with underwriters, producers, and direct customers.
Collaborate with other departments to resolve underwriting-related issues and inquiries.
Exhibit the ability to produce error-free work and achieve high levels of accuracy.
Process riders, cancellations, reinstatements, renewals, take payments, and maintain electronic bond files accurately.
Handle administrative tasks such as data entry, filing, and correspondence management.
Review submission information with limited underwriting authority.
Coordinate the quoting and bond issuance process.
Communicate with agents or direct customers to obtain additional information or clarification on underwriting matters.
Training of the bond issuance system.
Assume other job responsibilities as assigned
Technical Knowledge and Understanding:
Strong computer proficiency including Excel, Outlook, Edge/Chrome, Adobe, and other relevant business software.
Experience:
Proficient problem-solving skills and decisive decision-making abilities.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including email, phone, and face-to-face interactions.
Capable of multitasking and fostering effective collaboration with others.
Demonstrates planning and organizational capabilities.
Ability to work independently and deliver quality work within set deadlines.
Adept at maintaining professional interactions and thriving in high-performance team environment.
Capacity to tailor training to meet the individual’s skill level and learning needs.
Previous experience in the insurance industry preferred.
