We are seeking a skilled and self-motivated Tableau Developer to join our data & analytics team. The ideal candidate will possess strong Tableau development skills and a proactive, customer-centric approach to leveraging Tableau to enhance business user experiences. This role involves designing, developing, and maintaining visually appealing and interactive Tableau dashboards. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with data engineers, business analysts, and stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver insightful solutions. Additionally, they will bring strong SQL development and troubleshooting skills for independently supporting reports and dashboard development, delivery and operations. This role requires substantial proactiveness in proposing improved user experience for data driven decision making and will require strong knowledge of and experience with implementing design standards, development processes and best practices. Strong proficiency in Tableau Desktop and Server, experience with data cleaning, preparation, and transformation, is a basic requirement. Proven experience with python scripting and/or the Tableah SDK to support advanced Tableau capabilities is required. Proven ability to mentor and guide other Tableau developers will be an advantage. Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and a detail-oriented and organized approach are essential for this role.
- Collaborate with business stakeholders to understand specific reporting use cases, data requirements, and organizational objectives, ensuring dashboards are relevant, insightful, and aligned with business goals.
- Research and identify best-in-class Tableau features, including calculated fields, parameters, and LOD expressions, to ideate, develop, and demo dashboards in an iterative and agile fashion that accelerates time-to-insight for business users.
- Quickly develop dashboard prototypes to validate ideas and gather user feedback, refining visualizations based on iterative insights, and aligning closely with stakeholders to ensure evolving requirements are met efficiently.
- Establish standardized dashboard formats and structures that adhere to internal data and visualization standards, promoting consistency, scalability, and efficiency in the creation of future reports.
- Take end-to-end ownership of the dashboard development process, from initial concept and design through development, validation, deployment, and ongoing support, ensuring high-quality, functional, and sustainable reporting solutions.
- Identify and implement performance improvements in dashboard loading times, interactivity, and usability by following Tableau optimization techniques, making sure each dashboard runs efficiently across user devices.
- Lead workshops and training sessions for business users, sharing best practices for using Tableau effectively and empowering them to leverage self-service reporting to its full potential.
- Rigorously test and validate data accuracy, visual consistency, and overall functionality of dashboards to ensure high standards of data integrity and user experience across all reporting solutions.
- Maintain thorough documentation for each dashboard, including data sources, calculated fields, and user navigation instructions, providing transparency and easy handoff within the team.
- Actively engage with business stakeholders to gather feedback on reporting solutions, identify new data needs or improvement areas, and continuously evolve dashboards to meet the dynamic needs of the business.
- 7+ years’ experience proficiency in Tableau Desktop and Tableau Server for developing, publishing, and managing dashboards.
- 7+ years’ experience in data visualization principles (e.g., color theory, user experience design, and layout best practices) to create clear and engaging reports.
- 7+ years’ experience in using advanced Tableau functionalities, such as Level of Detail (LOD) expressions, calculated fields, parameters, and dashboard actions to build dynamic, interactive visualizations.
- 5+ years’ experience with agile development methodologies to iterate on dashboard designs quickly based on feedback.
- 3+ years in Python scripting for implementing advanced functionality and leveraging the Tableau SDK
- 3+ years in rapid prototyping and demoing Tableau dashboards to stakeholders, using iterative updates to refine insights based on user needs.
Tableau Consultant certification is essential
- Tableau Server Associate certification is highly desirable
- Experience with ETL tools like Pentaho PDI, SSIS or AWS Glue is beneficial
- Experience with hands on work in an AWS environment is highly desirable
The proposed salary range for this role is $125,000.00 to $140,000.00 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. Karsun considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
